The nearly 50,000 people who live and work in Salina, Kansas, depend on an underground aquifer for half of their water supply. When drought took a toll on the Smoky Hill River in the mid-2000s, the city’s groundwater became even more important. Unfortunately, contamination started to appear in the wells.
Even though no Koch companies caused the pollution, Koch took responsibility to lead the cleanup as a former owner of the contaminated site. Koch Remediation & Environmental Services has continued to work with Salina and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to secure a clean, long-term water supply for the city. The extensive effort is now nearing its final stages.
