In recognition of its role as an industry leader and innovator, Flint Hills Resources’ Marysville facility was honored by the Society of Plastics Engineers at the group’s annual conference this month. In receiving the 2013 Outstanding Community Service Award, Flint Hills celebrates the contributions its entire team has made to the automotive plastics industry and the engineering community.
“We are proud to be contributing to the automotive community through the Society of Plastics Engineers,” said Sanjay Patel, who leads the FHR Automotive team. “Our aim is to harness the innovation that leads to competitive advantages while also ensuring customer satisfaction.”
As a producer of plastic elements, specifically those used in the auto industry, Flint Hills has had a major presence at the Society of Plastics Engineers’ Automotive TPO Global Conference for nearly 15 years. Most recently, Flint Hills earned the society’s Grand Award for the development of a product that allowed the Ford Motor Company’s 2012 Ford Escape to be lighter weight, more fuel efficient and more efficient to produce. The company was also recognized by the group in 2011 when its polypropylene resin was a finalist in the Material category.
“The plastics community relies on a variety of expertise to make products better. Flint Hills helps to shape and elevate all of our work through the team’s leadership and innovation,” said Dr. Norm Kakarala, Founding Member of the Society of Plastics Engineers Automotive TPO Global Conference. “We are grateful for the continued efforts to raise the bar and bring new thinking across industries.”
The annual conference draws more than 450 automotive engineers to collaborate and share technology updates in their field and to network with industry professionals.
“Innovation is a big part of what we do and it not only helps us stay competitive, it helps our customers make better products,” said Steve Fernandez, plant manager for Flint Hills Resources Marysville. “It is important that we remain connected with organizations like the Society of Plastics Engineers that also look ahead for the newest technologies and opportunities.”
