Koch Industries Supports Quivira Council Boy Scouts Capital Campaign

January 5, 2011

his summer, Scouting leaders, Executive board members of the Quivira Council, donors and benefactors gathered at Crestview Country Club for an update on the Quivira Council’s “Delivering the Promise” Capital Campaign.

The Campaign kicked off in January 2009 with a land donation of 5.18 acres from Koch Industries, Inc. for construction of a new 15,000 square foot service center near K-96 and North Oliver.

The new center will serve as the organization’s headquarters and provide increased service and support to volunteer leaders and Scouting families with an expanded Scout shop, space to support volunteer training and programs, and offices for staff. It will replace the current service center located at 1555 East Second Street in Wichita. Construction is scheduled to begin on the new service center in late 2012, following the completion of capital improvements at the Council’s two camps.

Doug Neff, Council President said, “The first phase of this campaign was the most successful in the Council’s history, raising $6.6 million including the land donation by Koch valued at $395,000. The first phase has focused on construction at Camp Kanza and Quivira Scout Ranch to deliver programs to youth. The next phase of our capital fundraising effort kicked off with $945,000 of a $3 million goal raised to support the construction of the new service center and phase two projects at our camps.”

The Quivira Council serves more than 13,000 young people in 30 counties in southern and southeastern Kansas with a values based, character development program,” said Mike Johnson, Scout Executive/CEO of the Quivira Council. “Our program is delivered by more than 5,000 dedicated volunteers supported by our full time staff, and an accessible, visible and user friendly service center is key in this delivery. We are very appreciative of the donation of land from Koch Industries. It is a great location with easy access and the layout of our new service center is designed with the volunteer in mind.”
